Google Search Console

Google Search Console is a free, essential tool for understanding how Google sees your site and tracking your search performance.

What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools) is a free tool provided by Google. It allows you to monitor and understand how your site appears in search results.

Specifically, Search Console gives you access to information you cannot obtain elsewhere:

  • The keywords bringing visitors to your site
  • How many times your site appears in results (impressions)
  • The number of clicks received from Google
  • Which pages are indexed and which have issues
  • Technical errors detected by Google

Why should you use Google Search Console?

Even though Madra automatically optimizes the technical SEO of your site, Search Console remains a valuable tool for several reasons.

  • Verify indexing — Confirm that all your pages are indexed by Google and identify those that are not yet.
  • Track your performance — Observe how your impressions, clicks, and average positions evolve over time.
  • Detect problems — Google alerts you when it finds technical errors (missing pages, mobile issues, etc.).
  • Submit your sitemap — Help Google discover your pages faster by submitting your XML sitemap.
  • Understand your visitors — Discover which keywords people use to find your site.

How do you connect your site to Google Search Console?

Connecting your Madra website to Google Search Console takes just a few simple steps.

5

Submit your sitemap

Once verified, go to "Sitemaps" in the left menu and submit your sitemap URL: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml

What should you monitor in Google Search Console?

Here are the most important metrics and reports to check regularly.

  • Performance — Clicks, impressions, click-through rate (CTR), and average position. Filter by page, keyword, country, or device.
  • Coverage (indexing) — Number of indexed pages, pages with errors, excluded pages, and exclusion reasons.
  • Page experience — Core Web Vitals signals, mobile usability, and HTTPS status.
  • Sitemaps — Submission status and date of last read by Google.
  • Links — Sites linking to yours (backlinks) and your site's internal links.

What are common issues?

Here are the most frequent alerts and how to respond to them.

  • Pages not indexed — Check that the page is not blocked by robots.txt or a noindex tag. If unsure, contact Madra support.
  • 404 errors — A page was deleted or its URL changed. Madra handles automatic redirects, but report any persistent errors to support.
  • Mobile usability issues — Some elements are too small or too close together on mobile. With Madra, this type of problem is rare since the design is automatically optimized.
  • Performance drops — A sudden drop in clicks or impressions may indicate a Google algorithm change or a technical issue. Contact support if the drop persists.
Good to know

Search Console data is not real-time. It typically takes 2 to 3 days for data to appear. Check your reports once a week to track trends without getting lost in daily details.
